Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
If you are wanting to try or enjoy dark romance with an obsessive, morally grey hero, plenty of tension and a fast-paced plot, Twisted Love is an addictive read that's easy to binge. Ana Huang delivers a romance full of chemistry, emotional moments and compelling characters. The only thing that stopped this from being a five-star read for me was one particular scene that completely took me out of the story.
Twisted Love was my introduction to Ana Huang's writing, and I completely understand why this series has become such a favourite within the romance community.
The chemistry between the two main characters is one of the book's biggest strengths. Their relationship develops with plenty of tension, emotional vulnerability and moments that kept me eagerly turning the pages. The romance is packed with longing, high stakes and just enough mystery to keep the story moving at a satisfying pace.
Ana Huang's writing style is incredibly easy to read. The story flows well, balancing romance with suspense and enough twists to keep things interesting without taking away from the emotional journey.
The characters also stood out to me. The friendships and family dynamics help make the world feel bigger than just the central romance, and they left me excited to continue with the rest of the Twisted series.
The reason this wasn't quite a five-star read comes down to one scene that simply wasn't for me. There's a moment where the male main character sings to the female main character, and it completely pulled me out of the story. I know plenty of readers will find it sweet or romantic, but personally it gave me far too much second-hand embarrassment to enjoy. It's a very personal preference rather than a criticism of the writing, but it was enough to stop this from earning a full five stars.
Aside from that one moment, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found it incredibly entertaining from beginning to end.
I would recommend Twisted Love if you enjoy:
Twisted Love is a fantastic start to Ana Huang's bestselling Twisted series. It has memorable characters, addictive chemistry and a story that's incredibly difficult to put down. While one particular romantic gesture wasn't to my taste, that came down entirely to personal preference rather than the quality of the book itself.
If you're a fan of dark romance with emotionally complex characters and plenty of tension, this is definitely one I'd recommend picking up.
